Public oversight board in Bogotá prioritizes citizen control

The Veeduría Distrital, a board in charge of promoting transparency in public administration in Bogotá, signed an innovative agreement with Avina and ten influential local organizations to incorporate citizen oversight mechanisms into the board’s objectives, goals, and functions. Three joint task forces produced recommendations for policies in the areas of solid waste, public input into budgets, and citizen participation. By establishing concrete citizen control practices, Bogotá is demonstrating that public input in decision-making processes is a civic responsibility.
