Background for the National Strategy
With the support of multiple allies, Avina has advanced processes for monitoring and promoting social change in Nicaragua, from an equitable, inclusive and sustainable perspective.
Avina’s experience designing and implementing proposals for agendas that promote sustainable development, both at local and continental levels, guide our Nicaraguan initiatives.
The challenge is to continue innovating and pursuing new avenues for social change with the participation of all relevant stakeholders.

Establishment of the Nicaraguan Recycling Entrepreneurs’ Network
Since 2009 Avina has provided support to various recycling initiatives that have been instrumental in establishing the Nicaraguan Recycling Entrepreneurs’ Network (Red de Emprendedores Nicaragüenses del Reciclaje – RED NICA), an association of collectors of recyclable materials. At the end of 2010, RED NICA included more than 1,500 recyclers from four of the country’s departments.
Avina has been a leader in contributing to key actions for the development of inclusive business. Tangible support includes technical assistance for establishing and strengthening RED NICA, as well co-funding the First National Recycling Forum and the first and second national meetings of RED NICA.
