Solar disinfection of water/2006
Engineer Marcelo Encalada, Executive Director of the Sodis Foundation Latin America (Fundación Sodis América Latina) and an AVINA Santa Cruz leader, represented his organization at the announcement of the Latin American and Caribbean Water Prizes (PLACA - Premios Latinoamericanos y del Caribe del Agua), which was held in the Visitor Center of the Miraflores Locks at the Panama Canal.
Engineer Marcelo Encalada, Executive Director of the Sodis Foundation Latin America (Fundación Sodis América Latina) and an AVINA Santa Cruz leader, represented his organization at the announcement of the Latin American and Caribbean Water Prizes (PLACA - Premios Latinoamericanos y del Caribe del Agua), which was held in the Visitor Center of the Miraflores Locks at the Panama Canal.
The Sodis Foundation of Bolivia was chosen by the independent international committee as the winner of the PLACA prize for their work, “The promotion of solar disinfection of water in Latin America.”
The PLACA prizes are awarded jointly with the Water Center for the Humid Tropics of Latin America and the Caribbean (CATHLAC – El Centro del Agua del Trópico Húmedo para América Latina y el Caribe) and International Plan - Regional Office for the Americas, with the goal of identifying and sharing solutions for some of the most worrisome themes related to water in the region, and honor efforts made to reach the Millennium Development Goals associated with water.
