This is the second edition of the Awards that had a participation of 510 proposals in al Latin America with 770 journalists. The next call will be in 2010. The AVINA Awards of Investigative Journalism are an initiative of Fundación AVINA, which tries to cooperate with the means of communication and press professionals to enlighten the public agenda regarding sustainable development in Latin America.
The second edition of the Awards had an alliance with Daros Latinamerica for the category Art and Society (theme: Education), which is delivering 49 thousand dollars for 12 of the 61 proposals. Daros Latinamerica is a contemporary art collection headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, which is implementing the project Casa Daros in Río de Janeiro, a platform for gathering, reflection and dialogue that articulates art, education and communication, focusing on contemporary artistic production in the continent through exhibitions, workshops, artistic residences, seminars and other other activities.
