ADVANCING GLOBAL CLIMATE ACTION – PHILANTHROPIC ENGAGEMENT AND ADVOCACY LEARNING INITIATIVE

ABOUT

The Philanthropic Engagement and Advocacy Learning Initiative will provide a platform for philanthropic organizations rooted in the global South and/or advocating for entities from this region to amplify their influence on the global climate agenda and drive meaningful change through strategic collaboration, informed decision-making, and collective advocacy efforts. The initiative seeks to deepen comprehension of pivotal issues and decision-making processes inherent in the global climate agenda, while also cultivating a strong foundation for unified action towards a systemic transformation of practices affecting climate action in the global South.

OUR INVITATION

We extend an invitation to join us on a path to support the effective participation of philanthropy within the global climate agenda. This initiative is structured into three phases, and participants have the flexibility to engage in any or all of them.

Activities of the Initiative

The initiative is designed to empower philanthropic organizations in their engagement with global climate action, particularly in the lead-up to and aftermath of COP28 in Dubai. To achieve this goal, we’ve structured the initiative into three distinct sections, each offering a range of activities tailored to their specific objectives.

FIRST STAGE – PRE COP ENGANGEMENT

  • Global South Stakeholder Collaboration Space: A platform for sharing and coordinating strategies among stakeholders from the Global South or advocating for entities from this region, aimed at COP28.
    • Pre COP28 Virtual Gathering on November 21st: Ad hoc virtual meetings (at least 2) to address various aspects leading up to Dubai, based on group interests such as sharing contextual analysis, discussing resources provided by foundations (like training and travel grants for youth, civil society leaders, and indigenous people to attend COP28), addressing logistics, exchanges with local leaders, and more.
  • Key Messages for a Common Vision: Co-developed in partnerships with the Brazilian Grupo de Institutos Fundações e Empresas (GIFE), this initiative aims to consolidate the insights and expertise of participating organizations into a single document, presenting a unified perspective on the critical issues that need to be addressed at COP28 from the perspective of global South philanthropy.
