THE COP30 IS BUILT IN COMMUNITY, EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR
Sowing hope is an act of resilience. And in Latin America and the Caribbean, hope is alive: in a community-managed water system high in the Andes, in every recycler turning waste into opportunity, in an Indigenous firefighter protecting her forest with the support of her community.
WHO WE ARE AND WHERE WE COME FROM
Founded more than 30 years ago, Fundación Avina works to drive large-scale systemic change from the Global South, in collaboration with communities. To achieve this mission, Fundación Avina generates impact through three core areas – Climate Action, Democratic Innovation, and a Just and Regenerative Economy – all aimed at advancing sustainable development.
Today, our work model, CollaborAction, brings together thousands of actors to foster climate solutions that transform realities from the local level.
WHAT’S AT STAKE AT COP30?
COP30, the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), will take place from November 10 to 21, 2025, in Belém, Brazil.
For the first time, the Amazon will host a COP, bringing together diverse sectors from around the world to make collective decisions on how to confront the climate crisis.
This year, all eyes are on adaptation, finance, and implementation – the pillars needed to strengthen the resilience of territories and the people who inhabit them.
MUTIRÃO IS COLABORACCIÓN
Inspired by mutirão — the ancestral practice of collective work — the COP30 Presidency calls for climate action rooted in solidarity, justice, and cooperation among peoples. In a global context of inequality and crisis, this vision seeks to build shared solutions that connect the climate agenda with the realities of those who face its impacts every day.
At Avina, we call this ColaborAction: climate action born from communities and projected to the world — built from the Global South, with voices that have long been marginalized yet are essential to reshaping global climate governance. It is in the everyday, the collective, and the close-to-home where we find strength —where stories of active hope are woven, transforming the present and shaping the future.
FUNDACIÓN AVINA JOINS COP30 TO:
ON THE ROAD TO BELÉM: A VISION FOR THE FUTURE
Throughout the year, various initiatives have emerged across the region: gatherings, alliances, movements, and dialogues that give life to a climate agenda rooted in local realities.
These milestones mark how different actors are joining forces to pave the way toward a fairer, more effective, and truly multilateral path on the road to COP30.
LOCALLY LED SOLUTIONS
The most powerful responses to the climate crisis are already underway —born from the territories themselves. Together with hundreds of allies, we connect these local efforts with global governance spaces, contributing to the Paris Agreement commitments through justice, ambition, and inclusion. JOIN THE MUTIRÃO
COP30 is not confined to one venue. The real action happens in the territories, in the streets, and in the dialogues and alliances that bloom inside and outside official spaces.
Avina and its allies will be present in Belém and beyond, amplifying voices, showcasing solutions, and mobilizing collective energy. Here are some of the activities we’ll be leading:
