COLLABORACTION MEANS GENERATING SYSTEMIC CHANGE TO SUPPORT POST-PANDEMIC RECOVERY

DISCOVER WHERE AND HOW WE ARE CREATING IMPACT ALONG WITH OUR ALLIES.

SUPPORTING VULNERABLE COMMUNITIES

For more than 25 years, Fundación Avina has been working with vulnerable populations throughout Latin America, including migrants, recyclers, and informal laborers, with a particular focus on women, the elderly, and children. These populations are and will continue to be severely affected, not only by COVID-19 but by its economic fallout. To address their needs as quickly and extensively as possible, Fundación Avina has pooled funds to support the following strategies.

Contingency Plan for Grassroots Recyclers.

To provide emergency assistance to grassroots recyclers throughout Latin America.

Increase Resilience Among the Most Vulnerable in Cities.

Work with local governments and partner organizations to identify the most urgent emergencies resulting from the pandemic and develop solutions that will complement government and local strategies to address them.

Economic reactivation from public spaces, Puerto Escondido, Mexico

We are starting up community-based, urban production projects in the face of COVID-19

Imagination kits for children São Paulo, Brazil

We want to not only help children have enough to eat, but also nurture their creativity, ability to express themselves and, for a time, step away from the environment of fear and worry in order to engage in play and stimulate their cognitive and emotional development.

GUARANTEEING FOOD SECURITY FOR THE MOST VULNERABLE

Together with a group of organizations and high-net-worth families in Chile, Fundación Avina has developed two strategic initiatives to respond to the recovery of livelihoods in that country.

Canasta Local (Local Basket) consortium of foundations and B corporations

Canasta Local supports areas that have suffered the biggest human and economic consequences of the pandemic by giving local organizations the opportunity to turn their needs into requests via a crowdfunding platform.

Comida para Todos (Food for All) an initiative that brings together various actors to ensure Food Safety

The initiative responds to the nutritional needs of the country by reactivating two of the most affected sectors— restaurants and school transportation providers—in the delivery of safe food.

BOLSTERING AND STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS (CSOS), SOCIAL MOVEMENTS, AND SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURS FOR LONG-TERM TRANSFORMATIONS.

While the shocks and stresses related to COVID-19 are primarily considered in terms of a public health crisis, the pandemic’s aftermath will have a much broader impact on the global economy.
With this in mind, Fundación Avina’s response also includes long-term actions, some globally oriented, and others more locally-focused with possibilities for replicability in other contexts.

RESPONSE AND VISION FUND
