SYSTEMS THAT ENABLE GRASSROOTS RECYCLERS TO COLLECT USER FEES HAVE BEEN REGULATED IN 900 MUNICIPALITIES IN COLOMBIA.

Through the creation of the IRR (Regional Initiative for Inclusive Recycling) we’ve connected organized grassroots recyclers with companies, governments and multilateral organizations.

We proposed public waste management systems that prioritize recovery and recycling, formalizing the work of the grassroots recyclers.

We coordinate:

  • Strengthening the capabilities of grassroots recyclers, and forging networks among them.
  • Advocacy for regulations and public policies.
  • Strengthening of the value chain.

We innovate via the bottom-up construction of a strategy in which the protagonists are the grassroots recyclers themselves, and the business model is one which combines market and government resources. We support businesses in their transition to a circular economy.

We advocated for the Colombian government to design this regulation, and worked with them to establish a system that enables grassroots recyclers to collect user fees.
Through active public policies, we’ve achieved recognition for grassroots recyclers in 10 countries.
