FUNDACIÓN AVINA AT COP 29
We are a global organization that, from the Global South, drives large-scale, meaningful changes in support of human dignity and care for the planet. With Climate Action as one of our three impact pillars, the United Nations Climate Change Conference is a key milestone on our path toward sustainable development. We will bring our expertise to Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 11th to 22nd, in coordinating collaborative processes with local allies and co-investors across various agendas that align with our work in climate change adaptation and mitigation.
WHAT’S AT STAKE AT COP29
COP29 in Baku will be a key step on the path to COP30 in Belém, Brazil, focusing on the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG), which aims to balance funding between climate mitigation and adaptation. This COP will not only seek to define financial commitments but also to establish mechanisms that ensure an agile, unconditional flow of funds that aligns with the urgency of climate challenges. Another important aspect is the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA), with expectations that COP29 will advance in defining the framework, objectives, and indicators to assess adaptation progress. Finally, COP29 seeks to address the historic lack of representation of local actors from the Global South in climate decisions, a situation that has left the most affected communities out of critical negotiations.
OUR OBJECTIVES AT THE UNITED NATIONS CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCE

Democratize global governance and increase the representation of the Global South by amplifying the voices of local communities, Indigenous peoples, workers, and recyclers.

Position Nature and Justice at the center of climate decisions by incorporating local voices into key decisions and the Global Goal on Adaptation.

Transform climate financing by promoting the participation of local voices in the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) and supporting direct financing mechanisms to strengthen resilience in vulnerable communities.
OUR MESSAGES AT COP29:
Representation of the Global South
It is urgent to increase the representation of local voices from the Global South in climate governance spaces to ensure that decisions reflect the realities and needs of the most vulnerable communities, building a fairer and more inclusive governance.
Adaptation
Progress on the Global Goal on Adaptation is key to establishing clear adaptation and resilience objectives, ensuring that global actions address the specific priorities and challenges of the regions most affected by climate change.
Climate Financing
It is crucial that by the end of COP29, the NCQG incorporates specific financing lines for adaptation and for loss and damage, ensuring direct and flexible access for local communities, strengthening their resilience without incurring debt, and responding to the climate emergency.

The COP29 Latin America and the Caribbean Regional Resilience Hub is led by Fundación Avina. As the main pavilion for climate resilience and adaptation at COP, the Resilience Hub brings together a global community with diverse perspectives and experiences to share knowledge, co-create solutions and catalyse action. The Latin America and Caribbean Regional Hub has delivered a programme of in-person and virtual engagements to bring the local voice to the global platform from August to November 2024 and now offers a variety of events at COP29. Let’s prepare the way together towards COP30 to be held in our region!
