In this event co-led by Fundación Avina and South South North we will listen to voices from the global south (Latin America and Africa) about 3 main topics:

1) The importance of promoting regional collaboration processes as a means to strengthen climate resilience in the water sector in the region;

2) the relevance of including local voices in decision-making processes, particularly those of women, youth, local communities and indigenous peoples, as well as respect and the promotion of local knowledge and worldview;

3) the need for local communities to access climate finance in an agile and efficient way and so that they can be the authors of their own water projects.

This side event will draw on cases of scientific partnerships between local organizations, farmers and research institutes with the objective to advance the development and dissemination of appropriate Greywater Reuse technologies. The side event is configured as an open conversation among different territories who will share about their innovation process and the impact of their solutions. The event will highlight the importance of multi-sector collaboration for scientific innovation to result in impacts at scale.

This event aims to build on the ongoing dialogue around implementing the Locally Led Adaptation (LLA) agenda, which was a focus of much engagement at COP27. The event will focus on concrete lessons learnt for advancing LLA in the water sector and highlighting the potential for locally led solutions to build climate resilience across several countries and regions.

In this 75 minute session hosted by Waterlution and representatives of its global partners, a series of case studies will be presented to articulate specific learnings with a view to foster an expansion of the collaborative potential. It is essential to create mechanisms for international and transboundary knowledge mobilization for innovation to continue in the pursuit of global water security.

Fundacion Avina together with partner organizations, has developed and implemented a strategy for the creation and multiplication of Sustainability Centers in several countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. The event will share this strategy and its results to date, as well as some examples of solutions that can be applied in the most difficult cases, where centralized systems do not reach, to ensure the universalization of the human right to water and sanitation and leave no one behind.

This event proposes to discuss the importance of:

• Collaborative, inclusive and multisectoral water governance that integrates and respects the diversity of the territories, favors community participation, and promotes a systemic vision.
• The importance of strengthening local capacities and mobilizing multisectoral actors at different levels.
• The need to build innovative solutions that incorporate the views of indigenous people, women and youth.

The goals of the event are:

1. Discuss the barriers to implementing solutions at the local level and the opportunities that arise from multi-stakeholder collaboration.
2. Demonstrate the effectiveness of implementing water solutions designed and implemented collaboratively with local communities and the value of traditional and ancestral knowledge, through stories of success.
3. Identify opportunities for scalable partnerships in the global south.

The side event intends to bring together Brazilian government leaders on the topic of water and sanitation with business leaders that are at the forefront of water resilience projects, access to drinking water and sewage disposals, and promote the conservation and preservation of water resources in the country. The objective of the event is to further engage the business sector alongside Brazilian leaders to make Brazil a positive leader in the debate and actions in favour of water and full access to sanitation in the world. With the commitment to transform the country by 2033 in access to sanitation, Brazil has a decade of challenges that requires the union of all economic and political sectors.

In this event, the experiences of the actions of access to water that start from initiatives of indigenous communities and local minorities, with which projects have been developed, will be shared. Carrying out these projects therefore also constitutes a process of empowerment for these minorities and opens the doors to greater access to their rights, in dialogue with local authorities and the majority population.
