From May 29 to 31, the 3i Festival – Innovative, Inspiring and Independent Journalism took place in Rio de Janeiro. Fundación Avina supported the event and used the occasion to launch the Portuguese version of the Guide to Symbiotic Relationships Between Journalism and Civil Society.
The guide was developed through Inncontext News Agency, based on the understanding that communication plays a key role in enabling meaningful social transformation. At Fundación Avina, we work to create impact toward a more democratic and sustainable world, recognizing that well-informed societies are essential allies in this process. For this reason, we supported the festival and participated in the event to foster connections, partnerships and collaborative opportunities.
During the festival, Fundación Avina’s Communications Manager, Pablo Baños, led the workshop “Workshop for Times of Disruption: How to Create Symbiotic Alliances Between Journalism and Civil Society.” The session introduced the guide’s methodology, explored practical case studies and provided a space for participants to discuss specific challenges they face when developing these types of partnerships. More than 30 people attended the workshop, which was held at Porto Maravalley in Rio de Janeiro.
About the Guide
In nature, the most resilient species are those that collaborate. The same applies to journalism: its impact grows when it builds symbiotic relationships with other social actors. The new Guide to Designing Symbiotic Relationships Between Journalism and Civil Society encourages stakeholders to rethink collaboration as a pathway to strengthening the public and democratic role of the media while expanding its capacity for social impact and influence.
The guide was developed in partnership with the Pulitzer Center and Universidad de los Andes (Colombia) and is available in Portuguese, Spanish and English. Readers can also subscribe to Inncontext News Agency to receive weekly updates on the most relevant issues affecting civil society.
