As part of its regional engagement in Central America, Fundación Avina is supporting the webinar “Large-Scale Monitoring of Land Cover and Land Use”, organized by the MapBiomas network, and invites all partners in the Central American region to take part in this event. The webinar aims to present this global, multi-institutional network—made up of universities, NGOs, and technology companies—that monitors changes in land cover and land use across different territories and their impacts.

The webinar “Large-Scale Monitoring of Land Cover and Land Use” will take place online on February 19, at 9:00 a.m. (Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua), 10:00 a.m. in Panama, and 11:00 a.m. in Brazil. Registration is available here.
During the webinar, Tasso Azevedo, founder and general coordinator of MapBiomas, will present the approach and methods used by the network to produce annual, nationwide maps that show how land cover and land use have changed and evolved over the past three decades. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session and a space for discussion on how this approach can be applied in Central American countries.

All data, maps, methods, and codes are publicly available free of charge. The information generated by MapBiomas can be used by decision-makers, public policy designers, researchers, educators, students, civil society organizations, and companies.
