Fundación Avina joins the civic-journalistic initiative Reverso

Together with over 50 media outlets and civil society organizations in Argentina, Fundación Avina joins the Reverso initiative with a clear goal: to protect the integrity of public debate so that citizens can access verified and manipulation-free information.

Focused on the Argentine context, Reverso is being reactivated in a key election year for the country. This ambitious federal and collaborative alliance against electoral disinformation—driven by Chequeado and AFP Factual, with the participation of dozens of organizations, including Fundación Avina—is once again mobilized as campaigns unfold.

Reverso 2025 brings together media outlets from across the country and civil society organizations with a shared objective: to strengthen democracy by ensuring access to verified information that enables citizens to make informed decisions. Since its launch in 2019, Reverso has been activated in every national election to coordinate responses to the spread of disinformation.

This year, from July 1st to December 10th, allied media outlets will jointly publish fact-checks of suspicious viral content to expose and discourage false narratives aimed at influencing public opinion.

Collaborative fact-checking, the dissemination of reliable data, and digital literacy campaigns are some of the tools Reverso uses to protect the integrity of public debate and voters’ right to access information free from manipulation.

The project aligns with a core belief of Fundación Avina: information is a public good that strengthens democracies. With this understanding, the organization has supported journalists through fellowships and engages in several initiatives aimed at reinforcing this commitment. Reverso is part of that path.

In addition to Fundación Avina, and with the support of the International Fund for Public Interest Media (IFPIM), TikTok, and the Embassy of Switzerland in Argentina, strategic allies of this edition of Reverso include the civil society organizations Chicos Net, Círculo de Políticas Ambientales, Democracia en Red, Directorio Legislativo, Faro Digital, Fundación Compromiso, Potrero Digital, Wingu, and the media outlets 0221, ADNSur, Aire de Santa Fe, Ámbito, Análisis Digital, Bandera Fueguina, C5N, C5N.com, Cable A Tierra, Chaco Día por Día, Clarín, Corrientes al Día, Cronica.com.ar, DiarioAr, DIB, El Ancasti, El Federal Rioja, El Liberal, El Litoral, El Territorio, FiloNews, Huarpe, Infopico, La Brújula 24, La Capital de Mar del Plata, La Gaceta, La Gaceta Digital, La Mañana de Formosa, La Nación, La Voz, Los Andes, MDZ online, Minuto Neuquén, Minuto Uno, Radio 10, Rosario3, Ruido, Todo Jujuy, and Winfo.

Since its launch in 2019, more than 150 media outlets and organizations have joined Reverso to counter the impact of disinformation during election periods. This global threat jeopardizes the integrity of circulating content and the public’s right to make informed decisions. Disinformation undermines democratic stability, weakens civic trust, and erodes social cohesion—within a context exacerbated by rapid technological change.
